Go to virtually any forex forum or trading group and you can still find people discussing MetaTrader 4 as though it has never existed. That is quite peculiar, with the amount of newer platforms existing. You would think traders to pass. But they don’t. Not all of them, at least.

It is not the flashy features that make MetaTrader 4 popular. At best it looks somewhat dated. The interface is out of place with the other decade. And still that is one of the attractions.

It’s simple. Almost stubbornly simple.

You crack the platform and everything is in its place. Charts, indicators, order windows - no guessting, no menu hunting. To a beginner trader, that is more important than the available unlimited customization. Excessive features may actually slack you as you are still learning the ropes.

Then there’s familiarity. Many traders began using the MetaTrader 4 years ago and simply did not leave. After making hundreds of trades on a platform, MT4 platform features Malaysia it does not seem necessary to switch. It is to change everything on your desk, simply because a new one was released. Possible, sure. Why bother when the one that is there is functional?

The other article that people do not necessarily talk about is the extent of its support. It is still offered by brokers worldwide. It is easier when life is constant. You do not need to learn the platform each time you switch brokers. Log in, and there is the same layout, same tools, same rhythm.

And the entire ecosystem surrounding it.

Custom indicators, auto strategies, scripts - MetaTrader 4 is a system with a huge repository of indicators. Part of it is obsolete, part of it dubious, but there is much to discover. You will see traders in forums exchanging tools, tweaking them, breaking them, and repairing them. It is dirty, yet lively.

And, frankly, many traders do not require anything better.

They are not executing sophisticated code or dealing with large portfolios. They simply desire to study charts, make trades and exit. MetaTrader 4 does so, without attempting to impress anyone. It is practical, and perhaps even a little dull, but that is not a bad thing in the trading.

Naturally there are disadvantages. It is also not the quickest platform available. Certain functions are limited when compared to the more recent options. However, to most of them, those are not deal-breakers. They are simple irritations.

What makes MetaTrader 4 popular is not some under-the-rug feature which nobody discusses. Quite the contrary it is. Nothing shocking, nothing jazzy. A mere platform that gets on with its business, day after day, without obstructing the trader.

And sometimes that is all that people hang on to.
